Robert Fuchs was a highly respected professor of Harmony, Counterpoint and Composition at the Vienna Conservatory. His students included such renowned personalities from the world of composition as Hugo Wolf, Gustav Mahler, Alexander von Zemlinsky, Franz Schreker and Jean Sibelius. Johannes Brahms, who was often highly critical in his judgment of new musical works, held Fuchs’s compositions in high regard, and on several occasions lent him vigorous support.
