The Missa Brevis Akarana was commissioned by the Auckland Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Peter Thomas and reflects Chris Artley’s interest in classical church repertoire and jazz.
Johann Joseph Fux (1660–1741) served as the distinguished composer and Vienna court music director to the Habsburg emperors Leopold I, Joseph I and Charles VI from 1698 until his death in 1741. Sacred music comprises approximately two-thirds of his creative output. Fux’ Missa Lingua Mea (My tongue) KöV 19 for four-part mixed choir, two violins and bass continuo represents one of his more than 50 settings of the Ordinary.
The liturgical Mass text of Missa Brasileira is set to typical Brazilian rhythms and styles and builds a bridge between European spiritual choral music and the rhythmic intensity of South America. Renaissance and Early Baroque harmonies blend with the melodies and rhythms of Indian and Afro-Brazilian music. In addition, popular styles such as the bossa nova, samba and baião are incorporated.
This second volume of ROMANTIK a cappella by the editors Michael Aschauer and Jan Schumacher, containing 147 sacred choral songs by more than 130 composers, male and female, from 31 European countries, is an outstanding collection of choral music for mixed voices from the “long nineteenth century”, the period from 1789 to 1914. Predominantly for four voices, the songs range in style from easy-to-sing sacred folk songs to complex motets. The great diversity of the contents of the book is reflected in, among other things, the fact that it contains not only choral works of all three of the major Christian churches, but also settings of psalms that were sung in the Jewish synagogues of the time. The book offers a rich and extensive repertoire for every occasion in the ecclesiastical year, for use in both religious services and concerts of sacred music, and is therefore an indispensable source of material for dedicated amateur choirs, chamber and concert choirs, and church and cantoral choirs.
This first volume of ROMANTIK a cappella marks the start of a joint project between Helbling and the European Choral Association (ECA). Its aim is to present, in this form, unique, high-quality, edited collections of 19th century secular and sacred choral music from all parts of Europe. For this initial volume, with secular songs for mixed voices, the two editors, Dr Michael Aschauer and Prof. Jan Schumacher have collected choral material from representative sources and from this they have made a careful selection. It includes over 125 choral pieces from more than 30 countries by over 100 composers.
Cowboy and western songs often tell of the cowboy's hard, dangerous and lonely lives. Many of these songs have become widely known and are still sung today. This collection presents ten of the most popular cowboy and western songs arranged for two-part male chorus and piano accompaniment.
This collection of 18 Christmas songs in English includes only traditional repertoire from Great Britain and the USA. It was conceived for children aged 8 to 12. The songs were arranged so that they can be sung in unison throughout with an easily playable piano accompaniment.
